‘Moments in Nature’ digital presentation at Edinburgh Photographic Society

On Wednesday 4th April I’ll be giving my talk ‘Moments in Nature’ to Edinburgh Photographic Society. I’ll be showing some of my favourite work and telling the stories behind the images and sharing the techniques that I used. The evening begins at 7:30pm and is held at 68 Great King Street, Edinburgh EH3 6QU

I’ll be doing 2 digital presentations on Sunday March 18th for the L&CPU Big Day. I’ll be speaking at 9:50am in the Kay Shuttleworth theatre and again at 2:15pm in the Pollard theatre, each talk will last for approx 1 hour. As well as several speakers there will be trade stands, print competition and lunch.

Red kites

I’ve just got back from Mid Wales where I’ve spent the past 2 days photographing red kites and buzzards. It’s been about 8 years since my last visit to Gigrin and they have since added 2 tower hides which are great for getting you up a little higher and at eye level with the birds. It was also nice to bump into my 2020vision collegue Chris Gomersall the day I arrived, even if he had managed to take up both tower hides with a Nikon training group – thanks Chris!

The weather was mixed, the first day being bright and sunny so I managed to get the classic flight shots against a blue sky. The second day was much cloudier but when the sun burst out it lit the kites against a dark sky – my favourite type of light for flight photography, so all in all it was a very successful trip.

One of my favourite images came right at the end of the second day. As the sun was getting lower it burst through a gap in the clouds and I managed to grab some landscape shots with about 20 kites circling overhead – not very easy to see at this size!

Talk at Stockport Photographic Society

Sorry it’s short notice but I’ll be doing a talk tonight (21/02/12) at Stockport Photographic Society. It’s entitled Animals in the Landscape. These type of images will feature heavily although I’ll also be showing styles of wildlife images and telling the stories behind them and discussing the techniques used. The evening starts at 7:30pm and finishes at 10pm and will be held at St Georges Church, Buxton Road, Stockport.

I thought I would reflect on 2011 by posting my most memorable images of the year. All in all it has been a great year, I’ve survived the stresses of moving house and now reside in a lovely area on the edge of the Peak District National Park. I’ve also been successful with a couple of projects which have caused me problems in the past, and have just started writing my first book ‘Wildlife Photography Workshop’ which I’m co-authoring with top landscape and macro specialist Ross Hoddinott.

So here’s a collection of some of my favourites of the year and I wish you all the best for 2012!
